2012 Fine Arts Exhibition
I wanted to share with you some important information regarding the 2012 Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition:
- The Prospectus will be online by March 19
- This year all entries will be made online: entry information, downloaded images and payment
- March 19, I will be reviewing the new online entry process in a collaborative workshop
(see below)
- Entry deadline is May 29 (with NO Late Entry date!!!!!)
- We have three fun competitions outside of the Exhibition this year,
• What the Hay, Straw Sculptures
• Plein Air
• Street Painting

OHIO ARTS COUNCIL
Calling all visual artists, crafts people, designers, photographers and media artists, the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award deadline for visual artists is September 1, 2012. In this “nuts and bolts” workshop we will teach you how to resize your images and put together a good narrative statement for your visual art form. So if you haven’t applied before this is the workshop for you. We will even share information about other resources the OAC provides to artists.
GREATER COLUMBUS ARTS COUNCIL
“Artists in the Community” is GCAC’s grants and services program designed to support individual artists in the community. Fellowships, supply grants and much more.
OHIO STATE FAIR FINE ARTS EXHIBITION
The Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition, obtain professional jurors who accept up to 300 works of art. Offering over $17,000+ in awards. This unique opportunity is a great way for amateurs to begin to exhibit their work, and professionals to have their work reviewed by numerous arts councils, arts organizations, patrons and the 70,000+ visitors to the Exhibition during the Ohio State Fair. Come learn how to apply to this one of a kind exhibition as we have changed our process to a full online entry procedure, that is fast and easy. Entry deadline is May 29, 2012.

A yummy Thanksgiving treat: Caramel Pecan Pie

2011 Baked Fruit Filled and Single Crust Pies Single Crust Pie Blue Ribbon winner

Ingredients: (filling)
- 36 caramels
- 1/4 c water
- 1/4 c butter, cubed
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 c sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 1/3 c chopped pecans, toasted
- 1 unbaked deep-dish pastry shell (9 in)
- Pecan halves, optional
Instructions: (filling)
- In a small heavy saucepan, combine the caramels, water and butter. Cook and stir over low heat until caramels are melted. Remove from the heat and set aside
- In a small mixing bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt until smooth. Gradually add caramel mixture. Stir in the chopped pecans. Pour into pastry shell. If desired, arrange pecan halves over filling
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until set. Cool on wire rack. Refrigerate leftovers.
Ingredients: (crust)
- 1 c sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c plus 1 T shortening or 1/3 c lard
- 2 to 2 1/2 T cold water
Instructions: (crust)
- Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture is the consistency of coarse cornmeal or tiny peas
- Sprinkle on cold water, 1 T at a time, tossing mixture lightly and stirring with for. Add water time to the driest part of mixture. The dough should be just moist enough to hold together when pressed gently with a fork. It should not be sticky
- Shape dough in smooth ball with hands and roll
- Makes crust for 1 8 or 9” one-crust pie
